When you need to pump dirty water you have a few options. You can get an electrical submersible pump or you can go the full hog and get a petrol powered trash pump.

The trash pumps are more flexible than the submersible ones for 3 reasons.

1. You don't need to have an electrical supply anywhere near the water.

2. The strainer on the trash pumps gives you an extra layer of clog-protection.

3. At some point in any pump's life it will need servicing, and it's a lot easier to find someone to work on a petrol engine than the almost-disposable electric motors.
